Smart malls use a variety of technical solutions to enhance the shopping experience. For example, they are beginning to use the Internet-of-Things (IoT), and smartphone apps such as Fastmall, to help shoppers find and remember the location of a parking place, guide them to stores with an interactive map, and solicit feedback about their shopping experience. In addition, retailers are adding technology to become "smart stores." They are adding point-of-purchase displays that use biometric scanners to detect when a customer approaches and activate a customized video based on their personal characteristics. Similarly, virtual reality and 3D modeling tools allow stores to show customers visual depictions of products, such as appliances or furniture, in settings like their home. Potential benefits of the combination of these smart technologies include more efficient in-mall "navigation," personalized messaging, faster decision making, and higher customer satisfaction.
