In the hypothesis test method,the comparison is made between a test statistic from the sample data and a critical value from the appropriate table.A conclusion to either reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis can be made by comparing the P-value to the chosen significance level.With the confidence interval method,the confidence interval is constructed and the population mean under the null hypothesis is compared against the interval.The conclusion is made based on whether or not the population mean under the null hypothesis is within the confidence interval.
