Why do some firms have longer planning horizons than others?

Aggregate planning is usually considered to encompass several production cycles. Some products, large ships or nuclear reactors, for example, have very long production cycles (years or tens of years). Other products, such as lawn mowers or jewelry, have production cycles measured in days.
