1. Decide: The manager makes the decision alone and either announces it or "sells" it to the group.
2. Consult individually: The manager presents the problem to the group members individually, gets their input, and then makes the decision.
3. Consult group: The manager presents the problem to the group members in a meeting, gets their input, and then makes the decision.
4. Facilitate: The manager presents the problem to the group in a meeting and acts as a facilitator, defining the problem and the boundaries that surround the decision. The manager's ideas are not given more weight than any other group member's ideas. The objective is concurrence.
5. Delegate: The manager permits the group to make the decision within prescribed limits, providing needed resources and encouragement. Please see the section "Contingency Theories" for more information.
