The three major components of attitude include evaluative beliefs about an object, feelings about that object, and behavior tendencies toward the object. Beliefs include things such as facts, opinions, and general knowledge. Feelings encompass emotion, and behavioral tendencies refer to our inclinations to act certain ways toward an object. Attitudes tend to predict behaviors for some more than others. Individuals who rate highly on self-monitoring (reading a situation for cues on how to act) are likely to override their attitudes to behave in accordance with others' expectations.
