The hidden curriculum supports the idea that socialization through the education system is not limited to instruction through the formal curriculum. Rather, learning also happens by way of a hidden curriculum, where less explicit and more implicit forms of learning are enforced but still nonetheless influence and shape students by teaching them to be obedient, to value competitiveness, and so forth. For instance, the student role is reinforced right from kindergarten, where pupils are taught what to do, how to do it, and where it should be done, and then rewarded or punished accordingly. The idea is that this type of education will prepare students not only for the rest of their schooling careers but also for the work world they will enter once done with education.
