When you apply the Currency format to a field, Access displays a currency symbol and two values after the decimal point, but it does not change the field's data type.

Currency Format

A way of displaying numbers to represent monetary values, including symbols and decimal places relevant to a specific currency.

Currency Symbol

A graphic symbol used as a shorthand for a currency's name, particularly in relation to other currencies, such as the dollar sign ($), euro symbol (€), or yen symbol (¥).

Decimal Point

A dot (.) used to separate the whole number part from the fractional part of a number.
