What is the FIRO-B theory? What are its implications for teams?
On May 10, 2024
The FIRO-B theory with "FIRO" standing for fundamental interpersonal relationship orientation) helps to identify the differences in how people relate to one another in groups based on their needs to express and receive feelings of inclusion, control, and affection. The theory points out that teams whose members are compatible on these needs are likely to be more effective than teams whose members are more incompatible on them. Symptoms of incompatibilities in a team include withdrawn members, open hostilities, struggles over control, and domination of the team by a few members.
