-When we assume that all people are similar to us,we risk embarrassing ourselves and/or the other person by ignoring the differences that do exist between cultures.
-At the same time,automatically assuming that another person is different from us can cause us to ignore the commonalities that might bring us together.
-Recognizing that most cultures value the dignity and worth of people,and a world at peace,can be a starting point for human understanding.
-However,realizing that we may express those values in different ways is also crucial.
-Understanding the complicated nature of cultural differences allows us to start from similarities,identify differences,and communicate through our commonalities.
