Key terms and concepts that may be included in student responses:
▪ RLS is characterized by creeping, crawling, tingling, itching sensations in the legs that are prominent enough to keep one awake. One feels as though they just have to move their legs. The sensations may go away after walking, but may soon return.
▪ In order to be diagnosed with RLS, the DSM-5 stipulates that the symptoms must be frequent and severe enough to significantly interfere with sleep and cause fatigue, mental health problems, and difficulty functioning.
