Compare DNA synthesis in prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
On Sep 23, 2024
The process of DNA replication in prokaryotes and eukaryotes is basically similar. The principal differences result from differences in the structure and size of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic chromosomes. Prokaryotic chromosomes are circular and relatively small; consequently, there is only one origin of replication (and two replication forks). Eukaryotic chromosomes are linear and relatively long; consequently, there are multiple origins of replication and multiple replication forks.
