Advantages of group counseling include emotional support by helping clients feel they are not alone in dealing with their nutritional concerns; g roup problem solving by encouraging p articipants to motivate each other to change as they share coping strategies and problem-solve together; the modeling effect allows participants to learn from each by observing the accomplishments of others with similar problems; and a ttitudinal and belief examples assist group members to reevaluate their own belief systems. Disadvantages of group counseling include individual responsiveness, as some participants will tend to dominate the conversation; domineering, demoralizing, or needy group member personalities can negatively affect the group dynamic; possibility of poor role models; and sometimes it is difficult to meet the needs of all group members.
