What is the difference between a semantic differential scale and a Likert scale?

On Jun 11, 2024

Both are used with fixed-alternative questions. The semantic differential scale is a five-point scale in which the opposite ends have one- or two-word adjectives that have opposite meanings. With a Likert scale, the respondent indicates the extent to which he or she agrees or disagrees with a statement that is presented. See Figure 8-4, Question 5 and Question 6.
