Theoretically, injunctions were supposed to work as a method of "freezing" the current state of a situation until a particular situation could be resolved. During the time of the injunction, one party was not supposed to gain an advantage over the other. However, injunctions tended to turn public opinion against strikers because there was the perception that they were breaking the law. Second, unions spent a considerable amount of money in the courts fighting the injunctions. Finally, the injunctions served to demoralize workers who were trying to unionize, thus reducing their motivation and incentive to participate in union activities.
